100% Pure New Wool
Pure Wool
All our Norlender sweaters and accessories carry the Wool mark – the renowned symbol of quality for Pure New Wool.
Only licensed manufacturers who meet the Wool mark’s strict performance standards are allowed to use this Wool mark Symbol on their products.
Norway is known world-wide for the high quality of its Woollen Clothing. Keeping warm in the cold and often wet climate of the north has been a key factor for survival over the centuries, and wool is a natural fibre with the extraordinary properties to do just that.
The Norwegian Wool has long strong fibres, which results in a hard wearing yarn with high thermal ratings, a product of the natural evolution of our hardy Norwegian sheep to combat the tough local climate.
Norwegian wool is used in over 70% of our knitwear range, while the remaining garments in fine gauge use European yarns. 100% Merino wool is used in a selection of garments where a soft and luxurious handle is mostly required.
Our Merino Wool Garments
The ancient breed of Merino sheep tend to live in very harsh and rugged environments, meaning it has to have a very good quality wool coat for protection from the varying elements.
Merino sheep have adapted well to the extremes, offering the sheep a vast amount of insulation, alongside a low weight and many other benefits.
Merino Wool comes from merino sheep, and has been long prized for its luxury qualities, has superior shine, extreme softness and has great breath-ability, as well as being a excellently warm-to-weight ratio. Merino has a near pure white colour that will accept dye very well as also being very strong, and naturally elastic it feels particularly soft against the human skin.
Longer Lasting Merino fibre is long and strong, which increases a garments durability and ability to remain very soft, smooth and less likely to pill. Merino fibres can be bent 30,000 times without breaking which explains why merino garments are so long-lasting.
Reduced Allergies
Merino Wool is static-resistant, it therefore picks up less dust and lint from the air making it the perfect fibre for allergy sufferers. Dust mites prefer hot humid environments and as mentioned, Merino is much better at lowering both temperature and humidity than synthetic garments.
Felted Wool
The process of Felt are strong yarns which are woven loosely into cloth which then undergoes a lengthy process of shrinking, eventually acquiring the texture of felt and becoming quite dense.
Due to varying finishing processes that completely conceal the weave, this type of wool makes a very solid cloth with a smooth exterior surface. Felted wool is durable, supple, insulating and water resistant and ideal for cold and wet weather climate conditions.
